Tribute to 200 years of Railway History.
200 years ago today, on 27th September 1825, history was made with the steaming of George Stephenson’s Locomotion No.1 on the Stockton and Darlington Railway, changing the world forever. This groundbreaking steam run along the line is being reennacted today with the working Locomotion No.1 Replica, thanks to all the dedicated volunteers and organisers for making this happen.
Here is a digital drawing I did into the new year to celebrate this once in a lifetime national and global event through my art featuring the railways’s flagship locomotive. I intended to have this shared through the organisation of Railway 200, but despite expressing interests, they didn’t take my artwork onboard in the end, which is sad for me really.
Nevertheless, I am happy and proud to have drawn up this magnificent art piece to share through social media in time for this once in a lifetime celebration.
Happy Bicentenary to all modern railways, and I wish Locomotion No.1 and its volunteers dry rails and smooth running on its historical run on the mainline today and this weekend.
